Cochlear Implant is made up of an internal part and an external part.
The inner part is inserted under the skin behind the ear during surgery that requires general anaesthesia. The external part consists of a speech processor which is connected to the antenna. The antenna is provided with a magnet which keeps it vis-a-vis the internal part, so that contact can be established between the two parts of the implant. The speech processor can be a mini box or an ear loop, operating with or without a remote control.
A cochlear implant is an ultra-miniaturized device that improves hearing (perception of speech sounds and environmental noises) in people with severe to profound deafness. Unlike hearing aids, this device directly stimulates the cochlea using surgically implanted electrodes.
